FMAS Tech Talks Featuring Zack Bonebrake

September 18, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Tech Talks Image

The first speaker in the Tech Talks series is Zack Bonebrake. His presentation, “Digital Pictures: How Computers Understand the Images We Make,” will teach you the fundamentals of how digital imagery technology works – something he wishes someone had taught him at the beginning of his career.

“Technology can be so opaque,” Zack says, “but it’s always so simple in the end. Knowing that makes it much less intimidating.”

By understanding the underlying technology that allows you to capture and edit digital images, you can make better filming and editing decisions to create the striking film projects you envision.

Topics Zack will cover include how computers read and store image information; how pixels are interpreted and then stored as data; color and color systems; file compression; and file transfer – all of which impact the final film product.

This presentation is for directors, cinematographers, editors and anyone who wants a better technical understanding of how tech devices like cameras and computers capture, manipulate and store digital images.

About Tech Talks
Education is a cornerstone of the Film & Media Association’s mission to unite, educate and inspire the local motion media community. As part of this mission, we are proud to present Tech Talks, a series of presentations by motion media professionals and experts. Designed for anyone who works (or aspires to work!) in the motion media industry, Tech Talks explore the technology behind the artistry. Presentations will give FMAS members pro-level insight into the more technical aspects of film production, followed by an audience Q&A session.

Our first Tech Talk is free and open to MEMBERS and NON-MEMBERS – so if you haven’t joined FMAS, come get a taste of what we have to offer! A suggested donation of $5 will help us cover venue-related costs but is NOT required for admission.

Tech Talks takes place in the Cornerstone Room of Hotel Vandivort.
