We came. We saw. We hopped on those porch swings and let the breeze blow through our hair.

There was a great turnout for the first Film and Media Association of Springfield (FMAS) mixer!

The work of filmmakers Jeff Tenney, Ducon Williams, Ryan LaBee and Chris Greig played on Missouri Spirits’ big screen. This showing featured trailers and shorts. Future mixers will continue to offer FMAS members the opportunity to showcase their motion media creations. Members can also include a slide to promote their production company. Attend and gain insight into the process of fellow artists and filmmakers.

Simply a movie enthusiast? You belong too. We mixed, mingled and made new friends. Along the way, we discovered some really great people doing fascinating work–filmmakers, aspiring screenwriters, software designers, actors, photographers, festival organizers, educators, supportive partners and more. Attendees learned about FMAS volunteer opportunities and memberships. Current members gave input about member perks valuable to them. Writers, actors and crew members got to know potential new production partners.

We even got the scoop on a new festival in the region. The Ozark Mountain Webfest (OMWF) is scheduled to launch its inaugural year, September 28-30. OMWF invites new media/web series creators to Branson to showcase their work. Jason Brasier, one of our FMAS members, is working behind the scenes as a chief operating officer and co-festival director to help carry out this event. We learned Val Kilmer is scheduled to make an appearance and OMWF has been granted special permission from the family of John Huston to create The John Huston Lifetime Achievement Award.

During the mixer, guests filled up on delicious tacos with all the fixings and taste tested the “Springfield Sling,” crafted by our friends at Missouri Spirits. The signature drink sent a delightful tingle from the tip of our tongue right down to our toes. It’s our take on the Singapore Sling made famous in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Try it at our next mixer. When the call comes (on the pink telephone), you’ll be ready.

Stay tuned for future mingling events, educational opportunities, screenings, festivals and more. FMAS will hold quarterly social gatherings you won’t want to miss. In the meantime, add our next public event, FMAS’ Annual Meeting and Board Elections, to your calendar. The meeting takes place June 26, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Arts Library inside The Creamery Arts Center.
